The Birchbark House
The Birchbark House is about a little girl name Omakayas who lived on an island with her family. Omakayas helped her family and did all she could to protect them during the smallpox epidemic. This book is about culture and survival. I would allow my students to read this book and bring some items to class that was used in the story that relates to survival and safety.
